What Kind of Pagan Are You?
The Passing of a Familiar
I know that it is hard to understand for those who choose not to, or are in some way unable to truly connect with spirit in animal form, he was not only family, my familiar and my "baby," but he has been my best friend. He knew all my secrets and the inner workings of my heart... and I miss him terribly.
This path I have willingly chosen has taught me some hard lessons, and not always in the most gentle of ways. Some of my guides can be harsh task-masters, and while I won't go into great detail, his passing has been another one of those tough experiences. For those who don't know, I am an animal communicator, a shamanic healer (Ama Deus), and a Reiki Master Teacher. Part of my healing "work" in this life is to also help the animals transition from this world to the next, yet I was having a hard time detaching my emotions for his Highest good. He died TWICE before his final, eventual passing. How so? Both times, his breath ceased, his body stiffening, he... came back... just as I moved his body into a better position for burial. He lingered for days, until I understood the last of the lessons I was meant to learn from this process. I ranted and railed at the God/desses/etc, begging for his release from this earthly plane. It wasn't until I finally "got" the final mystical puzzle peace, the missing key, an actual "A-HA, I UNDERSTAND!" moment that he finally, quietly slipped from this existence. Funny how that works, eh?
Yes, part of me was angry at the time. But then, I detached and listened to my guides. I knew that my sweet kitty had simply been doing his job, one he had volunteered for willingly. He was playing a vital part in the advancement of my spiritual and healing gifts... and he did his job well. I now have additional knowledge, healing tools and understanding that I need to grow and continue to develop the gifts with which I have been blessed.
My beloved kitty had put up with a lot of my crap over the years. From my days as a drunken party girl to my unstable, unhappy days working in radio, to my current quiet, happy, loving, zen-like existance, he's always been there for me. Yes, I know that his passing is a mere transition to another plane and I try to quiet my mind with that knowledge, but my human weakness occasionally creeps back in. So I will just say... I will miss the way he gently placed his paw to my cheek as I held him. I will miss the comforting purr that raised my spirits whenever I was feeling down. I will miss how he warmly cuddled next to me as I slept. I will miss confiding in him. I will miss coming home to find him waiting for me at the door with a welcoming meow. I still laugh myself silly when I think of how he put the "smack down" on my friend Mike (sorry Mike! ;-P). I will miss sharing ice cream with him (he loved vanilla) and a zillion other things. I love him... more than I have words to say and I am comforted in knowing that our paths will cross again. My life has been better because he has been a part of it, and for that I give many thanks.
Peace Pulse
This is a wonderful idea, and I thought I'd pass the info on...
PeacePulse is a free service to use on your computer that plays a single gentle chime each hour to remind you to take a moment for yourself. The program works from a web page. It is so easy to get caught up in the day's activities and forget to take time out each hour. This is a very useful practical reminder.
PeacePulse is inspired by, supports and builds on just-a-minute - taking a minute of silence to take Pressure Off and turn personal Power On. The vision of PeacePulse is for millions of people with different beliefs, mindsets and attitudes choosing to share silence, hourly, around the world.
What can an hourly minute's quiet reflection do for you? It can be used for reflecting on a simple inspiring thought or for silence and meditation, to reconnect with the self and relax. You may choose to use the meditations found on the 'experience' page of the just-a-minute website. These regular reflections provide a pulse for changing attitudes and beliefs and can change behaviours and life experience.
